Al Gore's film, An Inconvenient Truth is often touted by the AGW lobby in its attempts to win over converts. That they do so is indicative of their scientific integrity: An Inconvenient Truth is a scientific travesty, a hotch-potch of error, innuendo, misrepresentation and deception. If I was an AGW-believer, I'd probably be trying to destroy every copy of that execrable film, so easy is it to falsify so much of its ourageous propaganda. Seeing that film was one of the things that decided me to construct this part of my web site.
My detailed critique of the film, written shortly after I saw it, is here.
It's also worth asking whether Gore believes his own propaganda. Not if the Tennessee Center for Policy Research is anything to go by. Not only was Gore's household energy use excessively high (over 20× the national average) before his film, but it actually increased by 14% after it was released. It is true that Gore uses some renewables, but only did this after he was taken to task for his personal energy use, not when they initially became available. Draw your own conclusions.
On 10th September 2007, a judge in the UK ruled that the film was "political" and cited nine instances of falsehood or misrepresentation (all of which were noted here) that had to be corrected if the film was to be shown in state-maintained schools in the UK. Interestingly, the BBC only put this news on its web site at 21:43 on that day and it had gone from the front page by 06:00 the next morning. A cynic might suspect that it was trying to ensure that it got as little publicity as possible. It also entirely failed to mention one of the most fatal flaws, i.e. the 800 year lag. One of the other flaws, originally reported, Gore's lie that Hurricane Katrina was attributable to AGW, has disappeared in the latest re-write of the article. When one compares this to the amount of publicity that was given to the Nobel Committee's decision to cheapen its Peace Prize even further when it awarded it to Gore a few days later, the same cynic might suspect a cover-up. (Anyone objecting to my use of the word "cheapen" with respect to this politically awarded prize may wish to reflect that it was awarded to (e.g.) the terrorist-turned-warmonger Menachem Begin, but denied to (e.g.) M.K.Gandhi and Oscar Romero.)
