What the AWG lobby presents is a gross overstatement of the case for anthropogenic global warming. Its case is infested with misrepresentation, selective evidence, special pleading, argumentum ad hominem: it typifies bad science and pseudoscience. It diverts attention away from other important issues where we actually can have an impact (the problems of HIV/AIDS, malaria, hunger, waste generation and disposal, habitat destruction, and the poisoning of ecosystems, to name but a few of many.)
Contrary to the way several people have tried to misrepresent my position, I am not suggesting that we should pollute willy-nilly or use fossil fuels capriciously. My main points of contention are (a) the AGW lobby goes out of its way to dismiss other mechanisms for climate change, (b) we do not actually know the extent of the effect anthropogenic CO2 emissions and (c) even if the AGW lobby is correct, climate change is anyway inevitable and our resources would be far better spent on preparing for the change or, better, dealing with things that are actually in our control, than in pointless political posturing.
I find it interesting that, since I first "came out" with my opinions on AGW, (January, 2007), I have been vilified and likened, by some ecofascists, to a holocaust-denier! (Why do these people find it necessary to try to censor open debate?) Yet, depite the uncomfortable feeling of being snapped at by AGW attack-crocs, I cannot, in all conscience, relinquish this position. In short, I am proudly Swimming Among the Crocodiles (in de Nile, of course! -- OK, it's an awful pun, but...)
This section of my web site does not pretend to be balanced: there is an enormous amount of pro-AGW stuff out there; this merely seeks to redress the balance. In common with most of the stuff on AGW on the web, this is not peer-reviewed either. (The realclimate.org site often attempts to dismiss its opponents as "non-peer reviewed" or similar; what it doesn't tell you is that it, too, is not peer-reviewed (unless you count review by other members of the site).)
