• Gribbin, John In Search of the Big Bang The best introduction to Big Bang. Very well written and explained. Recommended.

• Guth, Alan The Inflationary Universe: The Quest for a New Theory of Cosmic Origins Very well-written autobiographical account of Guth's development of the theory of Inflation.

• Hartquist, T.W. and Williams, D.A. The Chemically Controlled Cosmos An introduction to cosmic chemistry for the non-specialist.

• Hoyle, Fred; Burbridge, Geoffrey & Narlikar, Jayant A Different Approach to Cosmology A marvellous book which challenges much conventional wisdom. Mathematical literacy will aid understanding!

• Longair, Malcolm Our Evolving Universe Clearly written, non-technical introduction to cosmology. The author's obvious enthusiasm helps to make this a compulsive read.

• Rees, Martin Before the Beginning: Our Universe and Others A fascinating account of the current state of cosmological knowledge by one of the world's foremost astronomers.

• Terzian, Yervant & Bilson, Elizabeth M.(ed) Carl Sagan's Universe Multi-contrubutor (including Sagan) book covering the fields of science in which Sagan worked. Also available in hardback.

• Verschuur, Gerrit L. The Invisible Universe Revealed: The Story of Radio Astronomy Excellent account of the story of radio astronomy, this well illustrated ans very readable book is an excellent introduction to the ideas, discoveries and techniques in this field. Recommended

• Weinberg, Steven The First Three Minutes This book is rapidly attaining the status of a classic. Highly recommended.
